The atmosphere was electric in Jamestown on Saturday night as hundreds of party-goers attended the Ram ‘n’ Ewe Ball.
Even power cuts due to stormy weather failed to dampen their spirits.
Committee member Donna Kelly said the event is a chance to raise people’s spirits despite the drought and a chance to meet new friends and catch up with old ones.
With people travelling from Adelaide, Roxby Downs, Peterborough and even interstate, the Ram ‘n’ Ewe Ball has become a popular event over the past three years.
The event attracts a lot of young adults but the eldest person to ever attend was an 80-year-old.
“People from all backgrounds come along, from farmers and truck drivers to uni students and nurses, even parents having a night out,” Donna said.
An auction was held to raise money for charities including Beyond Blue, Cancer Council and Royal Flying Doctor Service with singles putting themselves to be ‘bought.’
Adelaide band Clearway, brought the crowd to life playing songs from the ’80s through to recent hits and local DJ Shaggy kept the mood in between sets.
Masters-of-ceremonies for the night was radio host Cosi and the enthusiastic crowd continued to sing along to the beat of the drums even after the power went.
Donna said the Big Shed Committee and Apex were huge supporters of the event along with the local community and emergency services.
And while the committee have yet to hear of any true love stories from previous events they would be delighted to know of any ram who found their true ewe.
