Students at Peterborough’s St Joseph’s School were thrilled, late in Term 3, by a visit from the Bishop Greg O’Kelly, of Port Pirie.
Bishop O’Kelly, in traditional cassock, brought his full ecclesiastical regalia along, and the children enjoyed the ‘show and tell’ as they had a closer look at a Bishop’s Mitre and Crozier, among other items of office.
Installed as Bishop of Port Pirie, one of the world’s largest Catholic Diocese, Bishop O’Kelly’s installation was conducted at St Mark’s Cathedral by Apostolic Nuncio Guiseppe Lazzarotto, with Cardinal George Pell and a number of other Bishops in attendance.
With a distinguished record in education, Bishop O’Kelly was also appointed Chairman of the Bishop’s Commission for Catholic Education.
His visit and interaction at the grass roots level of education with children at St Joseph’s obviously won him a number of fans, and unofficial helpers among the students, to whom Bishop O’Kelly is “cool”- the ultimate accolade.
