Federal MP for Grey Rowan Ramsey, accompanied by his wife Teresa, visited the Mt View Homes at Booleroo Centre last week.
This is the first time he has visited the homes, and was a great opportunity for him to meet the residents.
The residents had a chance to talk to their parliamentary representative in an relaxed setting.
Mr Ramsey gave a short informal talk about himself, his family and his hopes for the electorate.
He also entertained the
gathering singing with his guitar, much to the residents’ delight.
Apparently Mr Ramsey had a band in his younger days, and according to his listeners, has not lost his touch.
During a delicious morning tea, Mr and Mrs Ramsey were able to talk to the residents and visitors individually, giving them a chance to ask any questions they wished of their member.
Mt View Homes executive officer, Barry Graham, and staff members were able to show their guests around the facility with its excellent amenities.
“We are very pleased to have this visit from our Federal Member, and this should help in any future discussions about improving the image of aged care, especially the wonderful, dedicated staff who work in this area and deserve much more recognition,” Mr Graham said.
He said aged care is in crisis with financial viability, especially in the smaller rural facilities.
“It is very important to make a happy, homely and safe environment for residents,” he said.
“The need is paramount to keep people in their own environment if at all possible, with friends and familiar surroundings in their older years.”
