Anzac – Our Heritage, was the title chosen for the Crystal Brook Heritage Centre’s recent exhibition, which ran from April 6 to 26.
It comprised a large and very interesting collection of military memorabilia, including uniforms from World War I up to the present day.
There was a special display honoring Cpl Arthur Sullivan VC, our local war hero.
Many photographs of Crystal Brook citizens, who served their country in its hour of need were on display. A large variety of literature from Gallipoli up to recent conflicts, in which Australians served were displayed for viewing. Medals, badges, buttons – all manner of military equipment used over the years was also on show.
Crystal Brook Primary School students visited the exhibition and appreciated what they saw asking lots of questions.
There was a steady flow of visitors with about 500 people coming through the doors.
The exhibition opened early on Anzac Day to enable those who had attended the Dawn Service to view the display.
A display of this size and quality does not happen without support. Thanks was given to Michelle Greig for her outstanding brochure, which she designed.
Ken (Butch) Sawyer deserves thanks for supplying and arranging much of the exhibits, taken from his personal collection.
Thanks also goes to members of the community for their assistance in loaning and in some cases, donating items which enhanced the display. In arranging and staffing this event, trust that all who came to view it, left with a feeling of gratitude to those who gave their all – “Lest We Forget”.
The sponsorship of this event by the Anzac Day Commemora-tion Fund was greatly appreciated.
