Technical College student Ricky Foran has won the South Australian School Based Apprentice of the Year award.
The hard working student was nominated by the college and was one of twelve nominees in the first round of interviews.
Then he received a call back and became one of five finalists in the State.
In the final presentation Ricky had to promote the State in the form of SA Great and the ability of South Australia to meet trade shortages in target trade areas.
He also promoted the advantages he saw of being an Australian School Based Appren-tice. When not studying tirelessly, Ricky works at Spencer Gulf Coaches as an apprentice diesel mechanic.
Australian Technical College teacher Jenny Coe said, “I am very proud of him, and I am completely thrilled”.
Ricky said he was surprised to win as the other nominees had higher qualifications than himself.
Ricky was the only country based finalist in his category and will go on to compete at the National Apprentice
of the Year awards which will have a presen-tation dinner in Darwin.
Business partner of Spencer Gulf Coaches, Diedre Kent said that Ricky is “a top performer when it comes to his job”.
“We are really proud of him.”
