Lucy Mercer is one of the community’s greatest achievers in academia and sports, being described as a confident young lady with a positive, helpful attitude.
Lucy was recognised for her contribution to the community on Australia Day, awarded the Young Citizen of the Year award for the Peterborough district.
Lucy has entered into school and community activities with
a will, becoming a member
of the primary school Student Representative Council (SRC), and a choir member, performing throughout the community.
Now at high school, Lucy has continued with SRC membership and is the student representative on the Library Management Board.
Lucy has also received two Academic Achievement awards in a row in 2008 and 2009, represented the school in Mid North School’s Education Cooperative (MNSEC) Showcase, with the school band, and in MNSEC
athletics, as well as fundraising and competing in the Pedal Prix 2008.
Lucy has been involved in the Junior Tennis Association and is currently captain of a team, taking on her responsibilities with confidence and supporting junior players with encouragement and friendship.
Calisthenics has been a major part of Lucy’s life over the last
10 years, being an assistant instructor, and helping with choreography, supervision and training of the girls for about 40 weeks
of the year, which culminates
in an end of year performance.
Lucy received the Lynette O’Dea trophy for excellence last year, stemming from her participation with the club.
Participation in the VACSWIM program and achieving a high level of excellence at senior level has been one of Lucy’s undertakings, eventually becoming an assistant instructor for junior levels, encouraging new children to feel safe in the water through familiarisation.
As the eldest daughter of Phil and Robin Mercer and sister of Claire, Lucy’s nominator believed that her achievements at a
junior level surely means that she “will become a well-adjusted and useful member of the adult community, and an asset to Peterborough.”
