The Flinders News sales team won an award at the Newspaper and Printing Awards sales conference held in Sydney.
Sales manager Renee White was at the conference and was surprised to hear the newspaper’s name called out.
The hardworking team won the best feature award as well as being a finalist in the sales team of the year category and best contribution to co-op.
It was the only regional South Australian paper mentioned at the event let alone win an award.
Ms White said it was placing runner-up in the best sales team category that was the biggest achievement.
“I was very excited,” she said.
“We should be proud as we are a young team with fresh ideas and initiative.”
The Flinders News competed with other newspapers across Australia.
Ms White said there were sales teams with 20 to 30 years experience at the event.
“Sales is not about age,” she said.
“It’s all about personality.”
Teamwork has paid off for the sales department and they are hoping for another win next year. Ms White said she wanted to thank the papers valued clients as they would not have won the award without them.
“It’s a team effort here,” she said.
“We have some fantastic clients and are really glad to have them on-board.”
Managing-editor Greg Mayfield said it was a very good achievement for a young team that was led by Ms White.
“Renee’s bubbly personality is a good managerial skill and she is very creative,” he said.
“I the short time that she has been back at the paper, she has moulded a hardworking team who deserves their accolades.”
