Full house of players at squash court

29 Oct, 2009 01:26 PM

Results for October 26, 2009

It was great to have almost a full house of players this week as we are getting close to finals so it’s the serious end of the season.

With only one point separating the teams in second, third and fourth spot things are ‘hotting up’ and this was certainly obvious with only 2 points separating the Power and Crows teams this week.

Although the Crows were in second spot, they will not stay there after this loss and a surprise loss to Barney Rubble to Marty Pepe has put his team in fourth spot.

It was great to welcome back Andrew Hosking who played his first match in 8 years.

His wife Anne-Marie played her first match for 7 years last week and thoroughly enjoyed herself and Andrew has even more reason to celebrate as he played for an hour and won 6 points in the first game, 4 in the second game and then eventually won 9 in the third and fourth games and them to finish off a marathon with opponent Jim O’Sullivan having match point several times Andrew eventually went on to win the match.

A fantastic effort especially as he hasn’t played for so long.

What a way to make a comeback, the rest of us will be very scared when we have to play him.

Marty Pepe certainly proved that not playing every week makes no difference with his great win over Barney Rubble.

Brad Joyce had a very good night winning 2 matches in quick succession.

The first was against Anna Osborne, then he filled in for Brodie Clarke, who is away on school camp and had a very good match against new player and friend Jarrod Mudge who played exceptionally well in his first match ever.

The score in the first game was 10-9, as close as it gets and altogether Jarrod scored 20 points, I think a star of the future.

Lucy Kennewell played very well with a long match against Mark Preece, brother Jack was not so lucky this week with his opponent Gerard Carter playing very well winning in 3 games, although the score in the last game was very close at 10-8.

Ian Todd also played 2 matches making up for not playing last week and was in very good form.

The first was against Daniel O’Sullivan with Daniel starting off very well, before Ian winning the first 2 games, then Daniel won the third game, but Ian won the match.

With his confidence up and his form very good, Ian then played Craig Marshall, who hasn’t played for at least a month.

Ian didn’t let Craig get too many points.

Josh Fielding won a good match against Andrew Preece, Paddy Arnold is getting better and better winning again against an improving Thomas Pillay and Noel Murollo had a good win against Michael Osborne.
