Local sporting identities Tricia Thoman and Grant Hanlon have been awarded the greatest honour with a life membership to the Port Pirie and Districts Tennis Association.
Rewarded for their years of dedication and commitment to tennis, they both agreed that their involvement was not for the rewards or accolades.
It was for the love of tennis and the pride they have in their individual clubs and the Association.
Thoman, of the Trinity Tennis Club has devoted countless hours over many years to the development of tennis and in particular, junior tennis in Port Pirie.
She has been dedicated to the junior development squads and junior training and been a valuable member on the Port Pirie Junior Tennis Committee for several years.
Thoman has been a loyal Trinity Club member and has been instrumental in the continuation of the club’s proud history.
She continues to be heavily involved at grassroots level and is unsurpassed in her efforts to promote tennis and maintain the standards that Port Pirie tennis is known for.
An extremely talented player in her own right, Thoman has been very successful winning countless Port Pirie Tennis Association Women’s Championships.
“I am really honoured to be up on the life membership board amongst some amazing people who have made the Association what it is today,” Thoman said.
“I am particularly chuffed to have my name under Kevin Schwartz who I considered to be my partner in junior tennis development.”
“His focus was on junior tennis, looking after the future of the Association.”
Grant Hanlon of the Railway Pennant Club continues the Hanlon tradition of giving his time tirelessly to sport in the community.
Hanlon has been involved in junior development over many years and started coaching at the age of 13.
He has been involved in running many tournaments and has for many years been the publicity officer for tennis in Port Pirie.
The dedicated clubman has always been generous with his time and truly represents the Association with his efforts to raise its profile in the community and beyond.
Hanlon’s enthusiasm in events such as the country carnival, junior tennis, closed tournaments, twilight tennis and Tennis4Men is unparalleled and he is continually looking for ways to improve and enhance tennis as a whole.
“I have been very fortunate to have grown up in the Hanlon tennis dynasty,” Hanlon said.
“And I am proud to follow my mum Pam, brother Mark and sister Annie who are life members.”
“I am very pleased and honoured to be involved with a lot of good people who have worked at club level over decades, whom I aspire to be like.”
“I love tennis and I have always been big on promoting the game.”
“Even when working at club level it is always with the Association at heart.”
