Coaching changes ahead in Northern Areas

31 Jan, 2012 12:08 PM
With the start of the football season looming, three teams in the Northern Areas association will bring fresh blood into their coaching panel.

Jamestown-Peterborough, BMW and Broughton-Mundoora have welcomed their new A Grade coaches to their sides, and they are ready to rip into season 2012.

Crystal Brook, Southern Flinders and Orroroo, however, have retained their ‘star’ coaches, hoping to give them a chance at victory this year.

Brian “Butchy” Smith and David Zubrinich have come over from the Spencer Gulf League, coaching the Magpies and Lions, respectively.

Smith will replace Chris Stacey while Zubrinich fills the vacancy left by Cam Redden’s departure. Well-known Eagle Joe Duffield has climbed the ranks, after replacing Marc Stutley. All eyes will be on the three new coaches early on in the season.

Lions’ new A Grade coach David Zubrinich said he would hone in on players’ fitness.

“This year, we will lose six or seven players, and the emphasis will be on the young fellas to step up,” he said. After winning the 2012 Shield, the Roosters have retained Damien ‘Joel’ Head. Scott Brand, who is known for taking the Tigers to a back-to-back victory in 2009 and 2010, is ready tear into the season, and aim for victory again. Matt Dignan will be staying on with his beloved Roos for another season.
