Southern Flinders 7-7 (49) d Jamestown-Peterborough
5-5 (35)
An undermanned Southern Flinders scored a gusty win in wet and muddy conditions in the game played at Jamestown.
The Tigers went into the game without Scott Brand, Garry Hull or Michael Gaunt and showed some real character to get its first win of the season.
Southern Flinders gained control of the match with an excellent first term, with three goals kicked without reply. The Magpies fought back hard but never hit the lead in a game where goals were extremely hard to get – especially the longer the match went on. Once again, best for the Tigers was young dynamo Matt Woolford (two goals) who handled the ball beautifully despite the slippery conditions. Ben Brown was important with his strength in and around the contests.
Jamie Davidson, Jeremy Edson on a wing and John McKenna who went into the centre after half time were all important players.
Best for the Magpies was midfielder Nick Davis, utility Greg Farr and winger Tyson Sparks.
David Boulton was a hard worker all day and Scott Mesecke tried hard in the ruck. Chris Stacey kicked two goals for the Pies.
