Brinkworth Spalding Redhill Football Club is looking forward to season 2009 in the North Eastern Football League to gauge the progress of the young players who have come through the junior grades to push for selection in the senior teams.
Coaches Brian “Butch” Smith (A grade), Adam Moller (B grade) and the players have worked hard on fitness and skills to prepare them for this season.
Young players like Sam Weckert, Tim Weckert, Alex Smart and Ben Rieschke are the ones to watch and have been regulars at training.
President Peter Meyer said the boys were good, up-and-coming players.
“No doubt they will play a pivotal role in the team,” he said.
Alex is the leading ruckman for BSR and Mr Meyer hopes he continues to rise this year.
The football club is closely intertwined with BSR Netball Club and together have created a tight-knit family atmosphere that places strong values on both sport and community involvement.
Players and members have fun off, as well as, on the field with a very active social committee already planning events during the season.
While the team did not end last season on a high note, finishing seventh, Mr Meyer said this year the goal was to reach the top four.
“We have some young and fresh faces in the team for this year which will hopefully make a difference,” he said.
He said if the club achieved top four in this year’s season at least they would have achieved something.
It is the second year of Mr Meyer’s presidency and he enjoys his role with the club.
Not only is he president, but he also coaches senior colts and was previously a player.
The club would like to thank all supporters and workers and looks forward to the continued support of the community.
