Melrose mountain bike riders took to the track on the weekend to compete in the Dirty Weekend 24-hour off-road endurance challenge.
The Dirty Weekend ride took place at Cudlee Creek Forest on a 10km purpose built track that mixes single track, access roads, climbs, descents and alternate lines around technical sections.
There were 28 riders from Melrose who took part in the race and rider Richard Bruce said it was great to see so many people from the area participating.
“It was great to see so many people wearing Melrose team jerseys and shirts,” he said.
“It is the best entry we have put into the race so far.”
The Melrose teams competed in the 12-hour challenge which saw them riding from 2 to 8pm on Saturday then from 8am to 2pm on Sunday.
There was music to keep the riders pumped throughout the event along with food, fun and activities.
More than 200 riders took part in the fun event.
“It is a growing sport and it was great to see so many people getting involved,” Bruce said.
“It is an excellent event.”
The Over the Edge Team Squirt took out the women’s 12-hour race with riders Phoebe Smart, Naomi Lindsay, Hannah Mawby and Joanna Mawby putting themselves to the test.
The Melrose Over the Edge Team Knolly competed in the mixed 12-hour event and placed second.
Team riders were Michael Chaffey, Nicole Chaffey, Des Clarke and Karen Clarke.
The Over the Edge Team Ibis consisting of Martin Hand, James Baulderstone, Katherine Ryan and Mark Miller came third in the same event.
The12-hour male team, Over the Edge Team Sport made
up of riders Richard Bruce, Alastair Smart, Daniel Moller and David Folkers came second in their category.
