29 May, 2008 11:27 AM
Jamestown-Peterborough 15-8 (98) d Broughton-Mundoora 12-7 (79)

The Magpies scored an excellent 19-point win over the more favored Eagles in the match played at Victoria Park.

The Pies have a pretty good record at home against the Eagles and started the match full of confidence.

They rattled on six goals to two in a spirited opening.

The Eagles fought back hard during the second half and actually drew level early in the last quarter, but to the Magpies credit, they pulled away again to record their second win for the season.

Best for the Magpies was once again Scott Mesecke, who is having a wonderful year in the ruck. Nick Davis is also in great form and played another excellent game. Ben Home played his best game of the year and Greg Farr and Chris Stacey (four goals) showed their class.

Darren Woolford took some strong marks and kicked five goals and ‘Hooters’ Heness kicked three goals.

For the Eagles, best was young wingman Ben O’Donohue (two goals) who showed his class, Andrew Wilson and Lee O’Donohue worked hard around the stoppages and defenders Avan Ireland and Justin Tiller were very good.

Joel Kirk and Kirk Donnelly each kicked two goals.

Crystal Brook 23-17 (155) d Orroroo 8-10 (58)

The Roosters flexed their muscles in a dominant performance in the match played at Orroroo. They had a handy four goal lead at half time but really rubbed salt into the wounds and outscored Orroroo by 12-9 to 1-5 in the second half.

At the moment, Crystal Brook is clearly a class above all other sides in the competition and is playing an exciting brand of football.

Best for the Roosters was livewire rover/forward Josh Gale (two goals).

Keagan Brinkley (10 goals) was unstoppable up forward, Shane Arbon (two goals) was at his creative best and big men Leigh Williamson and Adam Noonan made the list in a very good team performance. Joel Head, Matt Arbon, and Matt Gale each kicked two goals.

Best for the Roos was youngster Tim Byerlee, Gaddy Laskey, Matt Dignan, Liam O’Dea and Luke Ellery in a game that would be disappointing for the Roos.

Kirwin Moore and Henry Bennett each kicked two goals.

Southern Flinders 25-17 (167) d BMW 11-7 (73)

Southern Flinders made it two wins on the trot with an impressive 94-point demolition of the BMW Lions.

The Tigers showed excellent fitness to kick 16 goals in a very good second half.

Best for the Tigers was Ben Brown (four goals) who is showing some real leadership in the last couple of weeks.

Jeremy Edson was creative, while Rhys Stanbridge (six goals) and Brett Ballantyne (six goals) were dangerous forwards all day.

John McKenna (two goals) continues to play well every week.

Garry Hull kicked three goals in his first match for several weeks and Lucas Chapman kicked two.

Best for BMW were Michael Bury, Dylan McCallum, Caleb Girdham, Sam Keller and Jordan Arthur.

Lachie McCallum, Simon George and Matt Foulis each kicked three goals.
