Brookies tighten grip on top spot 

With the finals approaching, Crystal Brook looks to have a strangle-hold on the top spot, leaving Georgetown and Laura to make up the other two positions.

Georgetown v Laura

Georgetown won the toss and elected to bat with Brett Ballantyne and Brett Murdock opening and getting off to a good start scoring at five runs an over.

With the score at 28, Ballantyne was caught by Jaran Turner, bowled Koby Nettle, for 11. 

Keiron Hicks joined Murdock and they added 49 for the second wicket when Hicks was bowled by Zanker for 23. 

At drinks Georgetown was sitting comfortably at 2/83. 

Two balls after drinks, Shane Ballantyne was bowled by Zanker for 2 and then Georgetown fell into a big hole, losing 7 wickets for 26, the first being Murdock who was caught Nettle at gully off Zanker for 48. 

Zanker and Nettle destroyed the rest of the batting line-up, dismissing Georgetown for a dismal 109.

Zanker bowled brilliantly to finish with 7/28 off 11.3 overs, Nettle 3/39 off 11 and Rick Willis bowled his 12 overs for only 19 runs.

Michael Gaunt and J Turner took 25 off Georgetown’s score when Turner was well caught by a diving Campbell Burgess at point off Kyron Burgess for 18. 

Willis joined Gaunt and they were on a mission, taking the score to 97 when Willis pulled a Murdock bouncer onto his stumps for 28.

Laura passed Georgetown’s score in the 28th over and, at the end of the over, Gaunt retired for a chanceless 58. 

Tim Woolford also retired for 20 and Zanker completed a double making 56 n.o. (including 24 off 1 over) finishing at 4/201 at the end of 42 overs. K Burgess bowled well finishing with 3/38 and Murdock 1/15.

Crystal Brook v Redhill

Shane Arbon and James Wardle got Crystal Brook away with a 34-run partnership until Arbon was caught Sam Cousins bowled Larry Klingner for 12. 

Merkel joined Wardle and they added 43 for the second wicket when Wardle was caught Klingner off Sam Weckert for 32.

Merkel, after making 96 last week, backed it up with 74. He was  bowled by Ben Pilkington with the score on 3/136. 

The Brook’s score at the end of their overs was 6/190 with contributions from B Cousins 27, Jack Cousins 15, Matt Gulin 10, Josh Gale 12 n.o.

Redhill’s wicket-takers were S Cousins 2/19, B Pilkington 2/46 and singles to S Weckert, Klingner and R Price.

Redhill’s chance of chasing down the Brook’s score was looking grim when Adam Kupsch removed Pilkington for 2 and Daniel Hayes for a duck to leave them 2/5.

Rob Price was bowled Luke Kapitola for 2 with the score at 3/23. 

Gulin took the next 3 wickets, first bowling Quinten Janz for 5 then after a 35-run partnership between Cam Kerr and Simon Hayes. He also bowled Kerr for 54 and 3 runs later he had Hayes caught by J Cousins for 18. Without any addition to the score S Weckert was caught Arbon bowled Merkel for 2, leaving Redhill with a lot of work to be done at 7/94. 

Ben Wallis made 15 batting at 8 with Redhill finally crawling to 120 being all out. 

Gulin finished with 3/39 off 9, A Kupsch 2/12 off 6, B Kupsch 2/16 off 5 with singles to J Cousins, Merkel and Kapitola.

Association match against NACA at Jamestown on Sunday

 Ryan Simpson won the toss for NACA and elected to bat hoping for a substantial score to make it two wins from two games after winning against Stanley recently.

Nathan Hayes picked up the prize wicket of Simpson when he bowled him for 4 with the score at 21. 

Zac Fielding and Boh Wall added 49 for the 2nd wicket when Wall was caught Keiron Glenn bowled Sam Weckert for 27 and from this point on Rocky River spinners took control of the game. 

Weckert picked up another 2 wickets that of opener Fielding who he bowled for 47 and Sam Young was caught Shane Ballantyne for 21 to finish with 3/31 off 10 overs.

Rick Willis also picked up 3/21 off 10 in the middle order that of Michael Skull caught S Ballantye for 3, Andrew Milne bowled  for 9 and Jordan Arthur caught Brett Ballantyne for 10. 

Todd Baker batting at 9 finished with 13 when he was bowled by N Hayes to see NACA all out for 139. N Hayes finished with 2/16 off 8, S Hayes 1/13 off 8.3.

After lunch Rocky River got off to a good start chasing down their score with a 46 run partnership between B Ballantyne and Brett Murdock when Ballantyne was caught by T Baker off Milne for 19.

Willis was next to go when he was caught Fielding bowled Nick Dawes for 12 with the score at 67 then Murdock was run out for 27 two runs later. 

Rocky River’s tail would have been getting nervous when Shane Arbon 9 and Ben Pilkington 8 were dismissed cheaply to leave them 5/89. Josh Gale 28 n.o. and S Ballantyne 13 n.o. then put together an unbroken 51 run partnership for the 6th wicket passing the score at 5/140. 

NACA’s wicket takers were all singles to Baker, Dawes, Milne and Arthur.
