Members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and House Leaders were inducted into their positions before the whole school and a gathering of family and community members. School Council Chairperson Melissa Koch provided the keynote address for the occasion , answering the question, ‘What is a Leader”. Melissa let student know that anyone can choose to be a leader and that some of the most influential people in leadership are the quiet achievers. Gill Hicks was given as an example, Gill an Australian woman from Adelaide who suffered horrific injuries in the London bombing of 2005, although facing this major setback founded a world- wide organisation called M.A.D. for peace, an organisation advocating for world peace. Melissa left students with a list of skills that they can practice to help them be an effective leader.
House Leaders for Dunstan and Rogers were first to take their oath led by Alby Nicholls and sign the pledge before receiving their Certificate and House leaders badge. The SRC took their oaths led by Gayle Bury-Dodman before signing the pledge and receiving their badges of office. Presidents of the SRC Meg Jarvis and Kyle Blesing then took their oaths before responding to the day’s proceedings and outlining the leadership plans they had for 2017. Junior SRC will be mentored by Tamara Schmidt while the Senior SRC will be mentored By Gayle Bury-Dodman and Megan Rackebrandt.
To top the morning off, a very impressive, tasty, morning tea was prepared by a group of Janet Arbon’s Food and Hospitality students.
