HUGE TRANSFORMATION: Caves Furniture Showroom is the new star of Jervois Street after an enormous transformation.

The Peterborough Main Street Renewal Project is well underway, with undergrounding of the powerlines complete and multiple buildings undergoing stunning transformations.

The corner of Main and Jervois Street has certainly changed shape, with Caves Furniture Showroom undergoing a remarkable re-birth.

Restoration works have stretched well beyond just a lick of paint, with exposure and repair to the old brick parapet, installation of new verandah tin and posts, and new guttering and downpipes.

The restoration process has exposed some wonderful reminders of yesteryear, including previously hidden under verandah and parapet signage.

Restoration works have stretched well beyond just a lick of paint, with exposure and repair to the old brick parapet, installation of new verandah tin and posts, and new guttering and downpipes.

With significant co-contributions from building and business owners, the project is instilling new pride in the street from community members, and owners alike.

The work has also attracted significant tourist interest, with many a visitor promising for a return visit in the coming months to see the project complete.

The upgrades will also include a new signage strategy for the street, with the installation of consistent sized under-verandah signage, to create a feeling on visual continuity between buildings.

It will also enable the historical building features such as parapets to become the showpiece of the street. The project is set to be completed this month, and will also include the installation of five outdoor dining areas in front of existing cafes and hotels.

Powerlines removed

You may have noticed as part of the Main Street Renewal Project we have said goodbye to the above ground power lines, exposing our beautiful heritage and upgraded facades!

This has gone a long way towards improving the visual appeal of our Main Street with the ambition of attracting more visitors to enjoy the sites of Peterborough.

Despite a few delays, the undergrounding of the power lines component of the Main Street Renewal project was completed on May 27.
