Attractions across the Flinders Ranges and Mid North have claimed eight positions in a bucket list of things to do in South Australia.

The list - compiled by tourism tour and attractions provider Experience Oz – features 100 attractions and experiences, with the stunning Wilpena Pound coming in at number two.

The Wilpena Pound Resort said they were delighted to be top of mind for travellers in South Australia.

”Set amongst towering River Red Gums and within walking distance to the entrance of Wilpena Pound, the resort is a showcase of Australian outback flora and fauna. On offer are 4WD tours as well as scenic flights over Wilpena Pound and the majestic Flinders Ranges, so that guests can immerse themselves in the geology and history of this spectacular region,” a representative from the resort said.

“Increasingly, domestic and international travellers are also seeking out authentic indigenous experiences which are a feature at Wilpena Pound Resort.

“The Adnyamathanha people, joint owners of the resort, have a continued strong, cultural and spiritual connection to the land and for them Wilpena Pound (Ikara) is a very sacred place. The Resort offers daily Aboriginal Cultural Walks, guided by the Aboriginal staff at the Resort,” they said.

“These help guests understand the Adnyamathanha belief systems around the creation of their traditional lands. Wilpena Pound Resort is owned by Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) and the Adnyamathanha Traditional Lands Association through a joint venture partnership. The Adnyamathanha people are the Traditional Owners of the Flinders Ranges area and are co-managers of the Flinders Ranges National Park that surrounds the resort.”

Explore Wilpena Pound placed #2, walk some of the Heysen Trail placed #7, the Australian Arid Botanical Gardens placed #22, Cycle the Clare Valley Riesling Trail placed #26, do the Arkaba Walk placed #31, ride the Pichi Richi Railway placed #51, Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre placed #68 and finally a cultural stop at Wadlata Outback Centre placed #78.

The list was compiled from several years worth of customer feedback, staff input and database polling, the Bucket List covers both experiences in larger urban centres as well as numerous hidden gems in regional South Australia.

Experience Oz Digital Manager Matt Hobbs said ‘The Ultimate South Australia Bucket List’ is a great opportunity to highlight some of the lesser-known wonders of South Australia as well as those in Adelaide for the local, regional and domestic tourism market to experience, and he hopes it will inspire people to get outside the cities and explore.

“With several years worth of data and feedback on hand – and in response to persistent questions about how to find new things to do in Australia – we put together the Bucket List so that even locals of South Australia will find a special part of the state they've never visited before,” he said.
