Sunday, October 1 was just the most perfect day for the games and the duck race on the Port Broughton foreshore. Many visitors to the town came from all over the state and mingled with locals to support the Port Broughton Sailing and Boat Club’s annual fundraising event. Thanks to the efforts of IGA, Central Deli and Beachfront Takeaway, Rags to Riches, members and the dedicated volunteers who support the club’s programs and for the club’s community gardens.
The games, on the foreshore under the Norfolk Pines for the youngsters and their parents, provided great entertainment. The display by the Copper Coast Sea Rescue boat was much appreciated, and Fish Watch gave out information to the interested public. The Little Duck Hunt around town over the week of the school holidays brought in many entries and the dressed up competition had many entries. There was a lunchtime sausage sizzle and soft drinks setting the day off well.
As there was little breeze and plenty of water and little tide, when the afternoon breeze came in at just the right time the ducks were released again by Garry Slavin of Port Broughton Lawnmowing Service. The little ducks came straight in under the jetty to the shore. The winners were caught and the rest were rescued by the excited youngsters, waiting to find their ducks. All part of the day’s fun.
The Fashion Parade Ducks competition was judged by Mandy and the key to unlock the treasure chest was found on several occasions. All brought an end to the outstanding day’s events. We would like to thank the sponsors and supporters and also the club’s volunteers and members who helped to make this one of our great events for the club and the town.
