Four officers supervise school visit to road safety centre

Four police officers turned out for Peterborough Primary School’s visit to the Port Pirie Road Safety Centre.

The centre is a realistic recreation of road situations, including traffic lights and a railway crossing, on a site off Gertrude Street.

Acting Sergeant Dale Howe, of Port Pirie, said he had attended the centre when he was a student at Risdon Park Primary School in the 1980s.

“I have returned to help today’s students,” he said.

He was accompanied by Brevet Sergeant Jye Kluske, Senior Constable Richard Osborn and Probationary Constable Rebecca Claughton.

The students learned about road rules as they rode cycles around the “streets”.

Representatives of the Port Pirie and Districts Road Safety Group, including Rex Lang, Bruce James and Ralph Atherton, coached the kids on safety.
