There were smiles all round for brothers Chad and Ben Pilkington from Pilkington Farming, of Redhill, as major prize winners in the Bayer CropScience Pty Ltd/Landmark Grow and Get promotion.

Bayer CropScience Representative, Graham Hatcher, delivered the good news to Chad Pilkington, who said it was a great phone call to get.

“I might have won the chook raffle once, but nothing like this,” Chad said.

The Pilkingtons are fifth generation farmers, with the brothers joining forces to create Pilkington Farming with the assistance of their father Noel, who’s still actively involved.

They farm 2,800 hectares in total, growing grain primarily, with a little land set aside for livestock.

The Grow and Get promotion is an initiative of Bayer CropScience Pty Ltd and Landmark.

Now in its third year, the promotion rewards growers who purchase Bayer products through Landmark stores.

Growers receive an allocation of tickets into quarterly draws and a major draw, based on the quantity and type of products purchased.

In 2017, a total of 60 quarterly prizes were awarded, with a choice of an Apple Watch (Series 2), a Dyson handheld vacuum or a $500 Resistance Test voucher.

The major prize was valued at $30,000, with a choice of a Quintrex fishing boat, farm machinery or a home makeover.

Chad confirmed that the brothers had chosen the home makeover option, with plans to build an outdoor entertaining area for the family.

Of the 31 Bayer brands included in the promotion, the winning ticket was drawn from an entry for the purchase of Bayer’s Sakura product, which Pilkington Farming purchased through the Landmark Kerin Agency in Crystal Brook, South Australia.

It so happens that Sakura has a history with the Pilkingtons, who supported Bayer with Sakura trials prior to its introduction.

Mick Kerin, Landmark Kerin Manager, said he thought Chad was on holiday playing golf when he heard they’d won.

“I don’t think he did so well on the next few holes. But I’m really pleased for them,” he said.

“We’ve been doing business with the Pilkington’s for many years, starting with their dad, Noel, and they are great to deal with and very suitable winners.”

Chad commented, “I can’t speak highly enough of the Kerin team. We’ve had a long association with them and they are a great asset for our business”. He also wanted to thank Bayer. “I’m very appreciative. Grow and Get is a great idea and we’re really grateful to win this prize. We’ll definitely continue using Sakura!”

Bayer Representative, Graham Hatcher, said they had a fantastic response to the Grow and Get promotion.
