FRESH FACE AT THE HELM: A Grade coach Luke Slattery, right, with brother Joseph, left, is hoping to build on previous coach Shane Arbon's great work at the club.

A fresh face is at the helm of Crystal Brook and hoping to lead the Roosters to back-to-back flags in 2018.

Luke Slattery steps up to the A Grade coaching role following the departure of veteran player and coach Shane Arbon from the position.

Slattery, an A Grade player for the Roosters, is ready to rip into the season with new blood in their line-up.

Nick Joyce returns home to his beloved red-and-whites and will be a handy utility player in the team's quest to be a strong force in the 2018 season.

Speaking of Joyce's return, Slattery described him as a great voice.

"He has some great leadership," he said.

Other new faces in this year's line-up include Jason Eagle (brother of Rooster Brad Eagle), Jackson Richmond and brothers Mark and Dave Anderson.

Eagle, who previously played for Irymple in Victoria, is expected to further bolster the Roosters' already strong forward line which features Daniel Hill as its beacon.

Richmond can slot it in as a half-forward while the Anderson brothers will add some depth to the line-up.

The newcomers replace outgoing players including Tom and Ben Arbon as well as injured Cameron Arbon.

It's the A Grade side's mid-field line-up that would be considered their greatest strength.

The quality mix of players includes the Combe brothers and Kapitola brothers as well as Izaac Arbon. Joyce could also be useful in the mid-field.

During the pre-season, Slattery has led a focus on fitness with skill-based drills forming part of their training routines.

"We want to be a really tough team to play against," Slattery said of their hopes for the 2018 season.

The club has played two trial games leading up to this weekend's season opener.

They have played one game against BSR at Edwardstown and another against United from the Adelaide Plains league.

Slattery said both were excellent games.

While Slattery is based in Adelaide during the week, Luke Kapitola, Daniel Hill and Damian Page lead the Crystal Brook trainings.

Along with Campbell Combe and Nathan Lambert as well as coach Slattery and his bench coach Steven Merkel, the three players form part of the Roosters' strong leadership group.

They are ably-assisted by former coach Arbon who Slattery described as a good mentor and sounding board.
