The Crystal Brook RSL branch had a memories of Vietnam evening on Friday, August 17, to commemorate the service of Australian soldiers in Vietnam.

During the night, three local Vietnam veterans shared fascinating stories of their experiences during their service.

Vietnam Veterans Day is commemorated on August 18 every year.

The day was originally known as Long Tan Day.

Following the welcome home parade for Vietnam veterans, in 1987 Prime Minister Bob Hawke announced that Long Tan Day would be known as Vietnam Veterans Day.

Since then it has been commemorated every year as the day on which the service of all those men and women who served in Vietnam is remembered.
