Teenage boys arrested after Mid North police pursuit

Two boys have been arrested on numerous charges after a police pursuit through the State's mid-north.

Just before 1.30pm on Thursday January 10, a Port Pirie police patrol spotted a stolen silver Mitsubishi Magna travelling south on the Spencer Highway at Wandearah East south of Port Pirie.

The stolen car was only monitored, not pursued by the patrol due to the speed of vehicle and was last seen travelling on dirt roads.

Just after 2pm police were informed the teenage occupants of the stolen Magna had just been involved in a petrol drive-off at a Service Station on the Augusta Highway.

At 2.15pm the stolen car was again sighted on the Augusta Highway near Crystal Brook then Pipeline Road south of Georgetown about half hour later then at Spalding at about 3pm.

The Police helicopter (PolAir) was called to the Kadina area at about 8.30pm to assist in a search for the stolen car.

Just before 10.30pm a Two Wells patrol spotted the same stolen car travelling south on Port Wakefield Road, it was followed from a distance until road spikes were successfully used on Waterloo Corner Road at Salisbury.

The stolen car continued with PolAir called in again to follow the car from the air.

Just before 11pm the stolen car was dumped on Burton Road with the two suspects running from the car.

Both boys were rounded up by patrols a short time later nearby and arrested.

The driver a 14-year-old boy from Moonta has been charged with numerous offences including two counts of driving dangerously to evade police, two counts of theft of petrol, illegal use of a motor vehicle.

The passenger a 13-year-old boy from the State's mid-north was charged with illegal use, theft of petrol and breach of bail.

Both youths were bailed to appear in the Kadina Magistrates Court on 13 February.

There were no injuries in the incident.
