Laura consolidated their spot at the top of the table with a win over Crystal Brook while Redhill moved a step closer to a finals berth with a win over Georgetown.

Laura v Crystal Brook

Laura hosted Crystal Brook in a top of the table clash on the weekend, with the winner likely to finish as minor premiers and score a free passage through to the grand final.

Crystal Brook won the toss but opted to give Laura the chance to bat first. Rick Willis and Jaran Turner got Laura off to a good start with a 23 run opening stand before Turner was bowled by a Tom Kerin delivery for 10.

Scott Brand made a quick fire 44 to put his side in a strong position at 3/81. Rick Willis (16), Michael Gaunt (27) and Ziek Kay (28) all contributed to Laura’s competitive total of 7/165 at the completion of their 20 overs.

Crystal Brook shared the bowling duties around, with 9 players having the opportunity to roll the arm over.

Six of these bowlers were able to take one wicket apiece – Tom Kerin, Adam Kupsch, Will Combe, Luke Bartlett, Steve Merkel and Leo Coates.

Crystal Brook made a good start to the run chase with openers Allan McArdle (34) and Adam Kupsch (59) piling on the runs.

However, once these two batsmen were dismissed, the Brook offered very little resistance to the Laura bowling attack.

Of the other 9 batsmen, only Steve Merkel (20) was able to make it into double figures. Crystal Brook eventually ran out of overs and wickets, losing their last wicket in the 20th over, while still 17 runs short of Laura’s total.

Ziek Kay (3/26/4) and Darryl Boylan (3/11/3.1) were the destroyers for Laura. Jaran Turner picked up 2/23/3 while Dale Tenney finished with a single wicket.

Redhill v Georgetown

Redhill and Georgetown competed on the weekend, with both sides needing a win to keep their finals chances alive.

Redhill won the toss and batted first but lost an early wicket with Larry Klingner bowled by Joel Zanker for 1.

However, it was all Redhill after that, as Ben Pilkington and Cam Kerr put on 130 runs for the second wicket.

When Kerr was finally dismissed for 63, Dan Hayes got in on the action with a quick fire 15.

Ben Pilkington finished on 80 not out at the end of the 20 overs, having helped his side to a total of 3/192.

Georgetown had 3 individual wicket takers – Jayden Burgess, Joel Zanker and Stephen Hollow.

Redhill backed up their good batting display with some tight bowling from Louis Cummins and Larry Klingner.

Georgetown were tied down and fell behind the required run rate early in their innings. Georgetown’s Shane Ballantyne eventually succumbed to the scoreboard pressure and holed out on 39.

Cody Robson (23), Matt Fejo (16) and Jayden Burgess (16 not out) all made contributions with the bat but Georgetown fell well short of Redhill’s total to be 4/128 at the end of their overs.

Ryder Hayes bowled 4 very good overs for Redhill to finish with 3/25. Ben Weckert picked up 1/21 from his 4 overs.
