Roosters triumph over Georgetown

Players in the Rocky River Cricket Association encountered showers and temperatures in the low twenties on the weekend, in stark contrast with the 40 degree heat of the previous week.

The match between Crystal Brook and Georgetown was delayed by half an hour due to morning showers while the Laura – Gladstone game had to be abandoned because of the rain.

Crystal Brook v Georgetown

Georgetown won the toss and chose to bat on an overcast day at Crystal Brook.

Openers Shane Ballantyne and Riley Davenport got their side off to a solid start with a 24 run opening stand.

Davenport was the first to lose his wicket, bowled by Adam Kupsch for 8.

It was a hard slog for Crystal Brook after that, as the next wicket did not fall until the final over.

Cody Robson joined Ballantyne at the crease and the pair put on 132 for the second wicket.

Ballantyne brought up his century in the 41st over but was bowled for 101 only a few balls later, to become Kupsch’s second victim.

Cody Robson played the supporting role perfectly to finish with 35 runs and to help his side to a total of 156.

Adam Kupsch was the only wicket taker for the Brook, finishing with figures of 2/38 from his 12 overs including 3 maidens.

Crystal Brook’s run chase got off to a shaky start as opener Allan McArdle was bowled by Joel Zanker for 4 with the score at 1/6.

The next 3 wickets fell in quick succession, as Adam Kupsch (2), Leo Coates (3) and Jake Clements (4) were all caught off the bowling of Stephen Hollow.

Crystal Brook were in trouble at 4/35 but middle order batsmen Luke Bartlett and Steve Merkel were able to steady the innings.

The pair put on 126 runs together and took the game away from Georgetown, passing the score in the 35th over.  Bartlett made 70 not out while Merkel made 64.

Stephen Hollow was the best of the bowlers with 3/37/10 while Joel Zanker picked up 1/35/9.
