A historic reunion is being held for the Peterborough Football and Netball Club in May, that will be celebrating all that has been achieved since joining the Northern Areas Football Association and Northern Areas Netball Association.

The reunion will fall on Saturday, May 11, the day where Jamestown Peterborough Football Club will play their final game at the Peterborough Soldier Memorial Oval.

The reunion will celebrate all that has been achieved since joining the association and will be also incorporating the 40th anniversary of the three 1979 A grade, senior and junior colt premiership win, and the 25th anniversary of the 1994 senior colt win.

President of the Peterborough Football Club Peter O'Dea says the day to celebrate for past players, officials and members to reminisce on the club's history and to watch the A and B grade play in the Saints colours for one last time.

"We have guernseys organised for them and also Saints bibs for the netballers, we have two sets of them. All the netball teams that will be playing on that day will have a bit of black, red and white, with the combined logo on the bib," Mr O'Dea said.

The day will focus on the Peterborough Football and Netball Club from 1962 and the amalgamated club with Jamestown Football and Netball Club from 2003 onwards.

Mr O'Dea says the amalgamation happened due to a lack of players but it has been incredibly beneficial to both towns to still be able to provide sporting opportunities for young players.

It is expected that hundreds of past players, presidents, secretaries, treasurers, coaches, captains, mail medal winners, best and fairest winners from both netball and football will return for the monumental match.

The interest is strong and on the day there will be a memory wall which will display photos and other memorabilia from the past 57 years, in addition to a souvenir budget which Mr O'Dea says is more so turning into a book.

It will encompass everything from 1962, the first teams, every premiership that was won in both netball and football, not just for Peterborough but throughout the amalgamated time as well.

With the interest for the event so high and so much history coming out the club, the legacy of the Saints will always be there.

Mr O'Dea says the club spirit is entrenched in so many people, who have played throughout the years.

A full day of football and netball will be played with canteen and barbecue facilities available. Schnitzel teas will also be available for purchase in the club rooms from 6.30pm.

Throughout the evening, there will be entertainment in addition to a guernsey and bib auction.

A breakfast and Sunday session will be held at the clubrooms from 10 am on Sunday, May 12 .

More information on the reunion is available on the Facebook event or by contacting the clubs.
