Fishing fun aplenty

WINTER FUN: The Winter Family Fun Fishing Competition and Maritime Art Exhibition again proved popular at Port Broughton.
WINTER FUN: The Winter Family Fun Fishing Competition and Maritime Art Exhibition again proved popular at Port Broughton.

Port Broughton was treated to all sorts of weather for the Winter Family Fun Fishing Competition on the long weekend on Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9.

Once again, it was held along with the Maritime Art Exhibition and many enjoyed the atmosphere and fun.

There were more than 100 paintings and works of art on display for the show from all around the state. Works from the Broughton Kindergarten and quality works gave all the visitors to the town plenty to see over the weekend.

A continuous stream of viewers to the hall were treated to stalls and an array of works in all media on show and for sale.

The free Fishing is Fun Program was available with free bags and fishing gear given out.

After the weather the week before there was fish biting especially at night for the fishing competition with the jetty and shore and boat sections having entrants registering catches.

Thanks to the club's volunteers, many of whom have dedicated more than 10 years to the club and who again worked incredibly hard over a week putting all the pieces into place, creating another great visual effect.

All the entrants and their families were represented at the presentation, and every entrant received an item of fishing gear for their troubles.

The local and state sponsors were thanked and the visitors were advised to support these very generous people who contribute to the event each year.
