Ban begins

The snapper fishing ban begins in some form for most of South Australia's waters this week. Fishmongers say that even though there will be impact on supply - with snapper to come from interstate or overseas - there are a range of other fish that would be just as delicious on the state's tables.

Drought affects us all - from people to plants, animals to birds, and it often produces sights that are not regularly seen. Talented Padthaway photographer Luke Leddy is often looking for subject matter and he has managed to capture a rare sight, a Crimson Chat, which is usually only found in arid areas of the country.


One falls, another rises

Two weeks after plans for a wind farm at Keyneton, in the Barossa Valley, were abandoned, there has been approval for a new development north-east of Kapunda. The Twin Creek wind farm has already had its fair share of debate, but the company says it is mitigating the impact of the development on the biodiversity fo the region while creating jobs and economic positives. Taking the plunge

Murray Valley Standard - Peri Strathearn

For more than a year Meningie couple Wonita and Michael Greenwood called Ronald McDonald House home as their young toddler underwent cancer treatment. To support the charity which supported them, the couple recently abseiled down Adelaide's tallest building to raise funds and awareness of the organisation. Now aged seven, their son Doug is clear of cancer.


Empowering youth

Creating change, reinforcing confidence and learning new skills were at the heart of the Next Gen of Eyre forums, which were recently hosted in Kimba and Port Lincoln. West Coast and Eyre Peninsula students from years 3 to 10 got together to be challenged and to give their perspective on engagement of local youth.
