As harvest continues across the State, farmers, harvest workers and transporters are being urged to remember to use the South Australian Grain Harvesting Code of Practice. Grain Producers SA chair Wade Dabinett said growers needed to be aware of their obligations.
"Growers' ability to be able to monitor conditions and make decisions to harvest at a paddock level is so important for our industry," Mr Dabinett said. "We are encouraging all growers not to take this for granted but to know and use the code to reduce the risks of fire to their own property, their neighbours and their community.
"Since its introduction...the code has worked well to reduce the incidence and severity of harvest fires while enabling harvest operations, even on days of total fire ban.
