Barossa mourns with their much endeared celebrity cook Maggie Beer, the sudden death of eldest daughter Saskia Beer on the weekend.
Saskia, 46, who called the Barossa home and forged her own culinary path, died "unexpectedly yet peacefully" in her sleep.
In a Facebook post to followers, husband Petar with her parents Maggie and Colin and sister Elli, announced on Sunday evening their heartbreaking news.
"It is with broken hearts we need to let you all know that Saskia, our beautiful, extraordinary daughter, sister, wife and mother died unexpectedly yet peacefully in her sleep on Friday night," the post said.
"The business Saskia grew and loved will continue on with me, her loving husband," Petar shared.
"We ask for time and space as we grapple to come to terms with our loss and appreciate all the support we have been given."
Trained as a chef, in 1997 she created her own free range and chemical free business 'Saskia Beer Farm Produce' located in Nuriootpa.
She embarked on some Australian first programs, such as milk fed lambs, suckling pigs and game, plus ducks, geese, guineafowl, and turkeys. For Barossa family friend Margaret Lehmann - wife of the late Peter Lehmann - her heart goes out to Saskia's family.
"It's an unimaginable tragedy," she told Barossa Herald. "She was so talented and had so much to give."
Acknowledging the "paddock to plate" cook as a quiet achiever, Mrs Lehmann said Saskia's generosity towards others was memorable in the 2014 Eden Valley fire.
"She knew people were struggling so took out supplies of delicious food...it was her way of expressing love, care and concern," she said.
Mrs Lehmann said her attention to detail and attitude to her work came from her rigorous training and from her parents.
"She exemplified both these values."
"She was a much loved wife, mother, daughter and sister and she will never be forgotten, and leaves behind a huge hole."
