Port Pirie residents whose first language is not English can call a translation hotline on Census night.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics wants every Australian to be counted in the upcoming Census, offering improved language and diversity help.

The census, held on August 10, will give a snapshot of Australian demographics, as well as being used by government to determine funding for transport, schools, health care and community groups.

A campaign with ads in 29 languages have been created to better prepare linguistically diverse australians.

The Translating and Interpreting Service is available on 131 450, and can provide access to interpreters who speak more than 160 languages.
